Here are a couple notes:
-
No GAPS - Make sure you do not have any gaps in your schedule. Here are examples of what is ok and what is not ok
-
Not OK- Period 1 Spanish, Period 3 No Class , Period 5 Math- you need to fill out the schedule change form above and request a class to add to period 3
-

Missing the 2nd Half of a course - Some courses require a passing grade in the fall semester to move on to the next semester. Students are not permitted to continue in sequential courses when the minimum mastery is not met.
-
ex- you were in Math IIIA in the fall and Math IIIB is missing in the spring (see your current teacher to inquire about why)
-
Schedule Adjustment Information
Schedule adjustments will be considered for the spring semester from December 9th through January 7th. Changes requested during winter break will not be reviewed until we return to school on Jan. 3rd. Schedule adjustments requested after 1/7/22 will not be considered.
Schedule Adjustments should be requested for the following reasons:
-
Missing a required class for a grade level or graduation status OR A-G Completion
-
Filling in an open period
-
A class is on a student's schedule that they already completed
-
Misplacement in a course level- (i.e. Spanish 1 vs. Spanish 2)
-
2 classes scheduled during the same period
-
Incorrect number of credits- too many or too few credits
-
Missing the other half of a yearlong course- (i.e. English 4A, but missing English 4B)
Please note that schedule adjustments will NOT be accommodated for any of these reasons
-
having classes in a certain order
-
having a certain teacher for a certain class
-
having a certain period open to accommodate for a longer break, time to do homework, for a job, or a college class.
-
starting school later or getting out earlier due to outside commitments
-
dropping a year long course (A/B Course)
-
dropping a course that creates a gap in your class schedule- ex. Period 1 math, period 3 open, period 5 science- having a period 3 open is a gap and is not permitted.
Note - if a requested class is full, the student will be placed on a waitlist.
Please check the portal regularly to see if your adjustment was made. Please allow 48 hours for a change request to be processed. Final Spring semester class schedules will be visible after 5pm on January 18th. The 2nd semester begins on 1/19/22.

2022-23 School Choice Process
2022-23 School Choice Process
Dear Parents/Guardians:
The Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) is fortunate to have outstanding schools serving high school students. The District has an Intradistrict/School Choice Board Policy that allows parents who reside within district boundaries to request for their student to attend an IUSD high school that is outside of their attendance area.
Families wishing to pursue Intradistrict/School Choice for the 2022-23 school year must make a request during the lottery window which begins at 8:00 a.m. January 3, 2022 and closes at 4:00 p.m. on January 28, 2022 .
If you would like to request a school other than the school to which your student is currently enrolled, please follow these steps by submitting a request through your Parent Porta l :
-
Click on the banner titled: The 2022-23 Intradistrict/School Choice lottery window is open
-
Under the Student Info tab, click on School of Choice Requests
-
Review the Parent Acknowledgement and Instructions
-
Click on Create New School Choice Request
-
Complete the request and SAVE
There will be a one-to-one exchange based on a random and unbiased lottery that will take place after the Intradistrict/School Choice request deadline. This process creates an ordered interest list of students at the participating schools. The lottery does not account for extenuating circumstances or specific reasons for the request and it is not based on a first come first serve basis.
You may log into your Parent Portal account to view the status of your request. Due to the high volume of requests received, we are unable to provide status updates regarding a request.
If you would like to request San Joaquin High School (IVA) for the 2022/2023 school year, please submit this request through the school choice process as described above. This process is to request FULL time enrollment at IVA.
Siblings of students who are currently enrolled in a choice school must apply for an Intradistrict/School Choice transfer. Siblings will be given priority at their school of choice, if space is available, providing the student resides within IUSD attendance boundaries. Sibling requests must also follow Intradistrict/School Choice steps and adhere to the same January 28 th deadline.
Below are considerations for Intradistrict/School Choice:
-
students in special programs will be approved for transfer only if the receiving school has the capacity to provide the appropriate program or service;
-
parents may only request one school other than the school to which they are assigned;
-
space must be available at the requested school;
-
some schools with lower enrollment may be able to accept additional students beyond the one-to-one exchange;
-
parents must provide transportation to the requested school.
Notifications will be sent to all families the week of February 14, 2022 via email to parents/legal guardians who submitted an Intradistrict/School Choice request during the lottery window .
Families do need to be aware that moving students between schools impacts staffing. For this reason, families must adhere to their school of choice, if approved.
We wish you and your student a successful high school experience.
Sincerely,
Monica Colunga, Ed.D
Principal

Irvine High School is excited to reveal its new Vaquero mascot and school brand! Irvine's Vaquero mascot was last modernized over 18 years ago by Mr. Gordon Yeaton, former Art Department Chair, and is the Vaquero logo that we are used to seeing around campus today. A branding focus group consisting of students, parents, staff, and alumni, have been working alongside a premiere Orange County Marketing Agency, "Twelve12", to be able to produce the new Vaquero look. This refreshed Vaquero mascot will continue to embody our rich Irvine HS traditions and values for many more decades to come!
To celebrate the mascot launch on December 15th, Alumni from the Class of 1990 and 1991 donated funds to get every student on campus a free t-shirt to celebrate!
New Vaquero Mascot revealed and every IHS student received a free t-shirt! A special thank you to the IHS Alumni Classes of 1990 and 1991 for their generous donation of funds to help purchase the t-shirts!
**Students who did not pick up their shirt already may come to the ASB room the week of 1/3-1/7 during lunch to get one.

School Meal Information & Menu
School Meal Information & Menu
The Nutrition Services Department is excited to share that the United States Department of Agriculture announced that they will reimburse school districts for free meals to all students, regardless of income, for the 2021-22 school year. This means ALL IUSD students will receive FREE MEALS throughout the next school year. Please note that Nutrition Services will continue to charge students full-price for an additional second meal or for a la carte items.
Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications
While meals are free for all students, families are still encouraged to complete a free or reduced-price meal application to ensure your students receive additional benefits to which they may be entitled. If approved, these applications may qualify families for Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) Cards issued by the State of California, discounted college application fees, discounted Advanced Placement (AP) test fees, discounted school events, and discounted utilities through gas, electricity, internet, or phone providers. These applications also benefit schools by providing increased funding through the Local Control Funding Formula, including funding for support staff, computers and other technology. The application for free or reduced-price meals is available online by visiting the Parent Portal at my.iusd.org and clicking on the orange Titan icon or at family.titank12.com. The fastest and easiest way to apply for meal benefits is through our online application. If you choose to complete a paper application, these are available in the Nutrition Services office (3387 Barranca Parkway, Irvine), your school's office, and the District Office (5050 Barranca Parkway, Irvine).
